A Brief Overview of Keselo Towers

Built during the Mongol invasions in the 13th century, the fortress originally comprised 13 distinct defensive towers that served as a safe haven for local families. Constructed from local slate stone and mortar without any modern architectural tools, these vertical strongholds protected the Tush people from northern Caucasian raids for hundreds of years.

By the Soviet era, many of the structures had fallen into ruins. However, through a dedicated restoration initiative in the early 2000s, several of these medieval icons were meticulously rebuilt. Today, one of the main spaces houses a fascinating ethnographic museum, showcasing ancient Tush artifacts, traditional tools, and unique armor used by highland warriors.
